More Than a Party: Rhody Boats’ First Social Munch Proved the Lifestyle Is About Connection

On Wednesday, May 13th, Rhody Boats hosted something completely new for our community — our very first free Meet & Greet Social Munch.

And honestly? We had no idea just how much it was needed.

Over the past year, we’ve talked to countless people who were curious about the swinger and lifestyle world, but hesitant to attend an event because they simply didn’t know what to expect. Questions like:

  • “What are the people like?”

  • “Will we fit in?”

  • “Is it awkward?”

  • “Do people pressure you?”

  • “What actually happens at these events?”

We realized there were a lot of people standing on the edge of the pool, interested in jumping in — but nervous about the unknown.

So we decided to create something different.

Not a party.Not a play event.Not a club night.

Just a chance for people to meet, talk, laugh, socialize, and experience the true heart of the lifestyle community in a relaxed, pressure-free environment.

A Secret Location… and the Perfect One

To help guests feel comfortable and discreet, the location was kept private until shortly before the event.

The venue turned out to be absolutely perfect — a cozy café in downtown Bristol that had expanded over the years into a full restaurant and cocktail space. Since the restaurant only serves dinner Thursday through Sunday, our Wednesday gathering became an entirely private event.

No random diners.

No outside interruptions.

No worrying about who might overhear conversations.

Just our community.

Guests were welcomed at the door by The Captain and Ingrid, where everyone was offered name tags featuring either their real name, screen name, or nickname — whatever made them most comfortable.

Inside, three bartenders kept drinks flowing while guests mixed and mingled freely throughout the venue.

And one thing quickly became obvious:

People were relieved.

Relieved to discover that in the swinger community, conversations are not only accepted — they’re welcomed.

Unlike many vanilla environments where approaching strangers can feel uncomfortable, or some fetish events where social circles can feel closed off, lifestyle events thrive on openness. Here, you can literally walk up to someone, say hello, and start talking — and chances are, you’ll be greeted with a smile and genuine warmth.

The Music Changed Everything

Rhody Boats also decided to do something a little different from many traditional munches and fetish socials:

We brought a full DJ setup.

The upbeat dance music created energy in the room without overpowering conversation. In fact, it accomplished the exact opposite — it gave guests freedom to talk comfortably without feeling like the entire room could hear every word.

Some guests even danced.

It was social.

Relaxed.

Fun.

Natural.

And by the end of the night, we had logged an incredible 122 guests through the doors — far more than we anticipated for a first-time event.

Even more surprising?

Although the event was completely free, attendees donated over $400 into the donation jar to help offset expenses. The generosity genuinely caught us off guard, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support.

The Unexpected Lesson of the Night

Originally, the evening was supposed to feature a guest speaker segment with Jess, manager of Electricity Social Club, who was planning to talk about lifestyle clubs and answer questions for newcomers.

Unfortunately, she became ill after what may have been an unfortunate lobster-related incident the day before and reluctantly had to cancel.

As a backup, Ingrid — who had recently been recording a podcast with The Captain about her transition from the kink world into the swinger world — stepped in to speak instead.

But something fascinating happened.

As Ingrid began talking, it became clear that the energy in the room wasn’t focused on listening to a presentation.

People wanted to socialize.

They wanted to connect.

They wanted to meet each other.

Recognizing the mood instantly, The Captain politely cut the speaker segment short and turned the music back up.

At first, a few guests expressed disappointment because they genuinely wanted to learn more about what swinger events are actually like.

But the answer ended up being right in front of them the entire night.

As Rhody Girl, Ingrid, and The Captain explained:

“Look around this room. This is exactly what a swinger or lifestyle event is like.”

A diverse, eclectic crowd.People laughing at the bar.

Groups gathered in conversation.

New friendships forming.

Couples meeting couples.

Singles feeling welcomed instead of isolated.

The only real difference?

At a lifestyle club or party, there are also designated play spaces available for those who choose to participate.

That realization seemed to click instantly for many newcomers.

And for several guests, you could almost see the relief wash over them.

The lifestyle wasn’t what they feared.

It wasn’t intimidating.

It wasn’t pressure-filled.

It was… social.

When Nobody Wanted to Go Home

Officially, the event ended at 9 PM.

Unofficially?

Nobody wanted the night to end.

As the evening wrapped up, the venue owner and The Captain announced that there were several bars within walking distance throughout downtown Bristol for anyone who wanted to continue socializing.

After packing up the DJ equipment, The Captain and Ingrid took a drive around the block — and what they saw genuinely made them smile.

Groups of people who had met only hours earlier were now walking together from bar to bar throughout town, laughing, talking, and continuing conversations that had started at the munch.

And in that moment, everything about the night felt successful.

Because as The Captain and Rhody Girl always say:

“It’s not always about the sex.”

In truth, swinger and lifestyle events are often 90% social — and this event proved exactly that.

The connections.

The conversations.

The comfort.

The friendships.

That’s the real heart of the lifestyle community.

And judging by the response to our very first Social Munch…

This definitely won’t be the last one.
